The 80th Independence Day of India was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the ICAR–Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology (ICAR-CIRCOT), Mumbai, on 15th August 2026. The occasion provided an opportunity for the Institute fraternity to pay tribute to the freedom fighters who made supreme sacrifices for the nation and to reaffirm its commitment towards the progress and development of the country.

The celebration commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by Dr. S. K. Shukla, Director, ICAR-CIRCOT, followed by the singing of Vande Mataram and National Anthem. Heads of Divisions, Scientists, technical and administrative staff, skilled support staff and other members of the Institute fraternity participated in the programme with patriotic spirit.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. S. K. Shukla extended his warm greetings on the occasion of Independence Day and highlighted the significance of freedom, national unity, scientific excellence and collective responsibility in the journey towards a developed and self-reliant India. He emphasized that every individual has a vital role in nation building through dedication, integrity, innovation and responsible service. By contributing our knowledge, skills and efforts towards the development of agriculture, science, technology and society, we can strengthen the foundation of a self-reliant and developed India. Collective commitment and excellence in our respective fields will help realize the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047. The year also marks the special significance of 150 years of Vande Mataram, adding to the patriotic spirit of the occasion.
