Promoting Soil Health Management and Balanced Fertilizer Use in the MGMG adopted villages May 07, 2026

An awareness programme on Soil Health Management and Balanced Fertilizer Use was conducted on 07 May 2026 at Ginning Training Centre, Nagpur district. The programme focused on strengthening farmers’ awareness of soil health as a key factor for sustainable crop production. It highlighted the importance of soil testing and recommended fertilizer application based on test results to improve nutrient use efficiency and lower input costs. Farmers were also made aware of the harmful effects of excessive chemical fertilizer use, including soil degradation, nutrient imbalance and environmental pollution, and were encouraged to follow balanced and integrated nutrient management practices.

Farmers were made aware of value addition through the efficient use of cotton by-products. Technologies such as pellet making, briquetting, biochar production, and composting were explained, showcasing their potential to generate extra income, reduce farm waste, and enhance soil and environmental health. Overall, the programme effectively promoted sustainable practices and balanced nutrient management.

Public outreach was conducted at Ginning Training Centre, Nagpur involving 25 participants. The programme emphasized the importance of maintaining soil health through informed and efficient nutrient management practices. Interactive sessions highlighted the use of soil testing for precise fertilizer application, enabling farmers to optimize input use and improve productivity. Participants were encouraged to limit the overuse of chemical fertilizers and incorporate organic alternatives such as biofertilizers, vermicomposting, and compost into their farming practices. Special attention was given to discouraging the burning of cotton stalks, promoting instead their effective utilization in composting and biochar production to enhance soil organic carbon levels. Overall, the session strengthened farmers’ awareness and encouraged the adoption of environmentally sustainable and balanced nutrient management approaches.
