Skill development programmes one each on Double Roller Gin Setting & Maintenance and Cotton Quality Evaluation & Grading for 62 participants from scheduled caste community were organised during Mar 02-05, 2022 for ginning and textile industry at Ginning Training Centre (GTC), ICAR-CIRCOT, Nagpur. In these skill development programmes, young college passed out boys and girls from Nagpur, Akola, Gondia, Bhandara districts of Maharashtra participated.

Dr. B. S. Dwivedi, Director, ICAR-National Bureau of Soil Survey & Land Use Planning (NBSS&LUP), Nagpur inaugurated the training programmes as Chief Guest. Dr. Dwivedi lauded the efforts of GTC, ICAR-CIRCOT for organising year-round skill development programmes since its inception in 1985 for personnel from ginning and allied industries. He stated that it was an excellent opportunity for participants to learn cotton grading and ginning from highly experienced and renowned manpower and urged the participants to utilise it to the fullest extent.

During the skill development programmes, a series of lectures related to Indian cotton scenario, basic cotton quality parameters, cotton grading, Double Roller (DR) ginning technology, DR gin settings were delivered by in-house experts and invited eminent guests while hands on experience were provided by scientists and technical officers of the institute in cotton stapling, gin percentage and moisture content measurements, etc.

Dr. Sujata Saxena, Director, ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai delivered the valedictory speech through online mode. She expressed appreciation to GTC staff for organisation of the two skill development programmes oriented towards the need of the industry and congratulated participants for successful completion of the programmes.

Dr. S. K. Shukla, Pr. Scientist& Officer In-Charge, GTC welcomed the participants and gave the background information on the purpose of organizing the skill development programmes. Er. Varsha Satankar, Scientist, GTC presented the programme details and Dr. K. Pandiyan proposed the vote of thanks and Er. D. U. Patil, CTO, GTC compered the inaugural and valedictory functions.
