Dr. S. K. Shukla, Director, ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with M/s. PRB Textile India Private Limited, Kalmeshwar, Nagpur for commercialization of technology on bio-enriched compost production from cotton micro-dust. PRB Textiles India PVt. Ltd. is a Nagpur-based company intended for creating organic products for improving soil health and enhancing the plant growth thereby quality of produce.
Cotton micro-dust, also referred as willow-dust, is a major waste (~ 60%) being generated from spinning industries which are facing disposal of these wastes due to lack of appropriate management practices. Cotton dust, majorly consists of cellulose and hemi-cellulose, can act as a suitable substrate for production of compost. In this direction, ICAR-CIRCOT developed a process for conversion of cotton micro-dust into compost.
The innovator of the technology, Dr. K. Pandiyan from ICAR-CIRCOT was present during the signing of this MoU. The main objective of this MoU was to commercialize the technology on compost production from cotton micro- dust for the benefit of stakeholders.
