ICAR-CIRCOT Mumbai has organized a 3 days training on, ‘Smart Textiles and its Evaluation’ during 18-20th March 2024 under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) scheme of Indian Council of Agricultural Research. This was a specialized training program conducted for scheduled caste community candidates in particular to upgrade their skill and expertise in Smart textiles.
This training was attended by total 13 participants including 3 male and 10 female candidates. The participants were from Vellore Institute of Technology, Chennai and Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute, Mumbai. This training programme consisted of lectures, discussions and development of smart textile products, conductive yarns, 3D printer, core spinning, cone winding, composites, sensors, etc. Through the lectures and practical demonstrations, different topics were focused like introduction and overview on Smart Textiles, Basic electronic components and their testing, High performance fibres for smart textiles, Core spinning, DREF spinning and cone winding, Composite development using conductive materials, Sensors and their applications using Arduino, Phase change material in smart textiles, Basics of 3D printing and its application, Smart textile product development, 3D printing & software for prototype modelling, Application of smart textiles in agriculture, Overview of incubation activities at ICAR-CIRCOT, and demonstration of computer colour matching machine.
The programme was ended with the valedictory session on 20th March 2024 which was chaired by Dr. Sujeet Kumar Shukla, Director, ICAR-CIRCOT Mumbai. The feedback from the participants were taken and the participants were guided with words of motivation by Dr. N. Shanmugam (Head, MPD), Dr. A.S.M. Raja (Head, QEID) and Dr. Sujata Saxena (Head, CBPD). The training completion certificates were distributed to the participants.
