ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology, Mumbai in commemoration of its centenary year celebration has planned to organize a series of lectures from experts in the domain of Cotton Value Cain, technical textiles, by-produce and biomass value chain.

The first lecture in this series was delivered by Dr. T.V. Sreekumar, Director, The Bombay Textile Research Association, Mumbai on the topic “High Performance Fibres”. The lecture was organized in the Conference Hall of ICAR-CIRCOT on 30th January, 2024 at 3.00 pm.

At the outset, Dr. S.K. Shukla welcomed the speaker and highlighted on the significance and the benefit of organizing the lecture. Dr. Sreekumar in his lecture, traced the growth trend of the high-performance fibres and the need to exploit the sudden spurt in its demand due to the increasing industrial applications. His presentation focused specially on the carbon fibres that has the great potential due to its inherent properties. He highlighted about its synthesis and also elucidated on the economics of establishing a commercially viable plant for the production of carbon fibres. The lecture had provided the avenue for cross learning and opened up the possibility of fruitful collaboration between the two institutes in the future.

The Lecture was attended by the Heads of the Divisions, Scientists and Technical Officers of the Institute ad its regional units.
