ABIC and ITMU of ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai organized a Sensitization Workshop on “Role of Intellectual Property in Business: Patent, Trademark and Copyright” on 11th March 2024 as a part of ICAR-CIRCOT Centenary year Celebration.

As a part of its centenary celebration, ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology, Mumbai organized a Sensitization Workshop on “Role of Intellectual Property in Business: Patent, Trademark and Copyright”. The workshop was designed by Institute Technology Management Unit (ITMU) and Agribusiness Incubation Centre (ABIC) of the Institute.

The program started with an ICAR song. At the outset, Dr. S. K. Shukla, Director, ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai welcomed the Guest speaker, Mr. Ashutosh Prachand, IP Expert, KnottylP, Pune and all the participants. In his welcome address, he admired the initiatives taken by Dr. Neeru Bhooshan, Assist. Director General (Intellectual Property & Technology Management) and Dr. Vikram Singh, Senior Scientist, IP & TM unit, ICAR, New Delhi towards increasing the awareness of IP in NARES. He insisted on importance of IP in scientific career and advised all the scientists to make to the fullest from today’s workshop. Dr. Vikram Singh, Senior Scientist, IP & TM unit, ICAR, New Delhi deliberated on IPR portfolio management, its impact on agriculture research, and the role of the IP & TM unit in sensitization of IP in the institutes.

The Guest speaker, Mr. Ashutosh Prachand, IP Expert, KnottylP, Pune gave a brilliant presentation on “Role of Intellectual Property in Business: Patent, Trademark and Copyright”. He expressed that scientists/innovators should think about taking their innovations in commercialization rather than only for IP protection/patenting. He elaborated on the basics of IP rights and different types of IP rights. He also discussed the journey of IP after receiving a grant to commercialization. He explained in further detail regarding the nine-window innovation thinking methodology.

Around 90 participants including scientists-technical-administrative officers, SRFs, YPs of the Institute, students, start-ups, incubates and other stakeholders associated with the Institute attended this program in hybrid mode.
