Use of Plant Extracts for Dyeing and Imparting Ultraviolet Protective and Antibacterial Properties to Cotton Textiles
- Ecofriendly natural products for dyeing and functional finishing of textiles is in demand now a days.
- Pomegranate rinds was used for dyeing and imparting the ultraviolet protection of cotton textiles. Pomegranate rind powders (plant extract) was used as mordant followed by alum treatment to produce a very good orange-red hue
- Dyed cotton fabric exhibited UV resistance property with UPF value of 50+.
- Process to dye cotton with lac dye was also established.
- The dyed fabric showed good fastness properties.
