Surface Modification Using Nano technology to Impart Super Hydrophobicity
- Cotton fabrics are generally hydrophilic in nature, however, some applications like upholstery fabric, uniforms, bags etc. demand that they be imparted with hydrophobicity.
- Nano Zinc Oxide nanoparticle was used to modify the surface properties of cotton fabric to impart super hydrophobic property, UV-protection and anti-bacterial property.
- The treated fabric had higher wetting time of more than 60 seconds, and excellent UPF rating of 50+ even after eight wash cycles.
