ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology, Mumbai celebrated World Intellectual Property Day on 26th April 2023 under Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav India @75.

A webinar was organized on WIPO theme for the year 2023 “Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity” by Institute Technology Management Unit (ITMU) and Agribusiness Incubation Centre (ABIC) of the Institute as per the instructions received from IP&TM Unit, ICAR,New Delhi.

The program started with ICAR song. At the outset, Dr. S. K. Shukla, Director, CIRCOT, Mumbai welcomed the Guest speaker, Ms. Rohini Wayal, Senior Manager, Intellectual Property Godavari Biorefineries, Mumbai and all the participants. In his welcome address, he applauded World IP Day celebrations across the globe with the aim of increasing awareness and understanding of IP. He cheered for this year’s theme by WIPO on “we can do” attitude of women inventors, creators and entrepreneurs around the world and their ground-breaking work. He wholeheartedly praised the women’s creative and entrepreneurial attitude and contribution at par with men in all the fields.

The Guest speaker, Ms. Rohini Wayal gave a brilliant presentation on the theme of WIPO 2023. She expressed that women are still considered as the primary caretakers of the family and are more inclined towards family responsibilities, yet they have to pursue their innovativeness to best of their ability. She shared some strategies for women to overcome these challenges. She also highlighted the groundbreaking inventive works by women in history till present.

On this occasion, Dr. Sujata Saxena, principal scientist; Dr. Jyoti Dhakne Lad, scientist; Dr. Varsha Satankar, scientist and some other delegates presented their viewpoints on “we can do” segment of WIPO theme with thought provoking discussion on IP awareness and few participation of women scientists in IP system, want of equal opportunity in the research or trust in women’s ability of entrepreneurship and anticipated bright future with more encouraging program like todays. Dr. R.P. Nachane, former HOD, QEID and pioneer of ITMU culture in ICAR-CIRCOT also expressed his thoughts on the program. Dr. A. K. Bharimalla, Senior Scientist and I/c, ITMU & PI-ABI and PI-CEO, R-ABI moderated the program.

Around 150 participants including scientists-technical-administrative officers, students, startups and incubates associated with R-ABI and ABIC and other stakeholders attended this program in hybrid mode.
