ICAR-CIRCOT has organized a 3 days training on, ‘Advanced Characterization of Cotton Quality and its Spinning & Dyeing Performance’ during 13-15th March 2023. This training was conducted under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) scheme of Indian Council of Agricultural Research. This was a specialized training program conducted for scheduled caste community candidates in particular to upgrade their skill and expertise in cotton post-harvest processing. This training was attended by total 15 participants including 8 male and 7 female candidates. The participants were from Anna University Chennai, Mumbai University, DKTE Society’s Textile and Engineering Institute, Ichalkaranji, Dr. BMN College of Home Science, Mumbai, Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai and Shivajirao Jondhale College of Engineering and Technology, Mumbai. During the training, the participants were taught about various aspects of recent advancement in characterization of cotton quality, its spinning as well as dyeing. Through the lectures and practical demonstrations, different topics were focused like Current Indian Cotton Scenario, Evaluation of Fibre Quality using HVI, Importance of Trash in Cotton and its Characterization, Cotton Quality Requirement for Spinning, Spinning Preparatory Process, New Cotton Spinning Systems, Dyes for Cotton, Technological developments in Cotton Dyeing, Colour Analysis in Textile, A brief overview of Incubation Activities, and practical demonstrations on HVI, Trash Analyzer, Rotar Spinning System, Miniature Spinning System, Computer Color Matching machine, and Smart Textile laboratory. The programme was ended with the valedictory session on 15th March 2023 which was chaired by Dr. Sujata Saxena (Director, I/c & Head CBPD). The feedback from the participants were taken and the participants were guided with words of motivation and success by Dr. N. Shanmugam (I/c Head MPD), Dr. ASM Raja (I/c Head QEID), and Dr. DM Kadam (I/c Head TTD). The training completion certificates were distributed to the participants.
