ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology (ICAR-CIRCOT), Mumbai organized a seminar on "Intellectual Property (IP) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Building our Common Future with Innovation and Creativity in the Cotton Sector" on April 29, 2024 to celebrate "World IP Day-2024" in line with centenary year celebration of the Institute.
The program started with ICAR song. At the outset, Dr. S. K. Shukla, Director, ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai welcomed the Guests and other participants. The seminar was organized by the ITMU and ABIC of the institute.
The programme comprised three expert lectures:
The experts in their talk provided valuable insights into various aspects of intellectual property, sustainable development goals, circular economy, and innovations in the cotton sector.
After the expert lectures, there was an interactive studio session with the 12 start-ups of CIRCOT. The session provided a platform for the start-ups to share their innovations and explore avenues for IP protection to support their business growth.
The seminar concluded with a panel discussion on "The Role of IP in shaping the Future of the Indian Cotton Sector" chaired by Dr. S. Sreenivasan, Former Director, ICAR- CIRCOT, Mumbai. The panel discussion shed light on the need to strengthen innovations within the unorganized segment of the cotton value chain. It was emphasized that value addition to waste to create entrepreneurship in rural areas should address the concern of soil health. Furthermore, it was suggested a comprehensive mapping of CIRCOT technologies to foster technology-based start-ups. Strategies to increase the visibility of the renewed forms on development of processing technology at affordable cost by research institutions will attract entrepreneurs into the cotton sector and perpetuate its growth.
