The ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology (CIRCOT), Mumbai, organized a practical demonstration on "Compost Preparation Using Kitchen Waste for Use as Garden Manure" as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission 2024 initiative on 30th December 2024. The event aimed to promote sustainable waste management practices and environmental awareness among participants. The demonstration showcased simple, effective techniques for converting kitchen waste into nutrient-rich compost, emphasizing its benefits for home gardening. Attendees, including staff, students, and community members, actively participated in the session. The initiative aligns with the goals of the Swachh Bharat Mission by encouraging waste-to-wealth conversion and fostering eco-friendly habits. 

Practical demonstration on Compost preparation

Dr. N. Vigneshwaran, Principal Scientist, highlighted the importance of composting in reducing household waste and improving soil health. Dr. S.K. Shukla, Director, emphasized the importance of replacing chemical fertilizers with organic alternatives to address environmental pollution. He highlighted how organic fertilizers not only enhance soil health but also promote sustainable agricultural practices. Adopting such eco-friendly solutions is crucial for ensuring long-term environmental and agricultural resilience. The event concluded with a pledge to uphold cleanliness and sustainable living practices.
