ICAR-CIRCOT Conducts Khet Bachao Abhiyan awareness programme in Sangamner

As part of the nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyan (KBA) initiative of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), the ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology (ICAR-CIRCOT), Mumbai, successfully organized a two-day farmer awareness programme across several villages in Sangamner Taluka of Ahilyanagar district, Maharashtra during June 29-30, 2026.

The programme aimed to create awareness among farmers on sustainable agricultural practices and promote efficient soil and nutrient management for improving crop productivity and soil health. During the awareness campaign, farmers were sensitized about the objectives and significance of the Krishi Bachao Abhiyan. Technical sessions focused on the importance of soil testing-based nutrient management, balanced fertilizer application, and the use of eco-friendly organic inputs such as microbial biofertilizers, Jeevamrut, Beejamrut, and green manuring crops. Farmers were also educated on the vital role of beneficial microorganisms in nutrient cycling, decomposition of organic matter, enhancement of soil fertility, and long-term soil health improvement. Furthermore, demonstration on microbial mediated sugarcane trash accelerated degradation and Rhizobium seed treatment were demonstrated. The awareness programme was conducted in the villages of Chas, Vavi, Pimpale, Pimpri, Kasare, Saykhindi, Sonoshi, Nannaj-dhumala, Khandgaon under Sangamner Taluka. About more than 180 farmers actively participated in the programme and interacted with the scientists on various aspects of sustainable farming and biological inputs.

The programme was conducted by the ICAR-CIRCOT expert team comprising Dr. Ajinath Dukare, Mr. Rajesh Narkar, Mr. Manoj Ambare, and Mr. Nishant Kambli. The programme was organized in collaboration with Relegare Agro Life Bio-Science Pvt. Ltd., Sangamner, which facilitated coordination with the farming community. The participating farmers appreciated the initiative and expressed keen interest in adopting sustainable soil management practices and microbial technologies to enhance crop productivity while reducing dependence on chemical inputs.
