Regional Quality Evaluation Unit – Sirsa

 

ICAR-CIRCOT Quality Evaluation Unit, Sirsa was established in the year 1989 with a primary objective of providing technological assistance to cotton scientists by evaluating the fibre quality of newly developed strains of cotton. Over the years, the Unit has extended its mandate by expanding its area of operations. The Unit is now actively engaged in providing services to various stake holders viz. cotton scientists, ginners, traders, spinners, seed producing companies, farmers etc. The unit is located in the campus of Central Institute for Cotton Research (CICR), opposite to Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU), Sirsa.

Facilities available at the Unit include High Volume Instrument (HVI) for cotton fibre quality evaluation, Ginning Machine, Trash Separator, Boll Toughness Tester, etc. The Unit, In addition to catering to the needs of cotton scientists of North Zone, consisting of Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh by evaluating fibre quality of research materials has also extended its activities by providing testing services to cotton trade and industry. The Unit helps the cotton trade and industry by providing testing of commercial samples of cotton on nominal charges. Sirsa Regional Unit also strive to create awareness among farmers by organising off-farm and on-farm trainings and field day about the best practices for producing clean, contamination free and better quality cottons.
