ICAR-CIRCOT being a pioneer in research and development in post-harvest technology of cotton has been active in educational activities since its early days. Educational activities of ICAR-CIRCOT were initiated way back in 1932 when it conducted the first training course on cotton technology for persons deputed by industries. Subsequently, in the year 1958, Bombay University recognized the Institute for postgraduate research in Physics (Textiles) and continues to be recognized by the University for M.Sc. and Ph.D courses.  In 1985, ICAR-CIRCOT set up Ginning Training Centre at Nagpur – first facility of its kind in Asia to provide advanced training on cotton ginning. Presently, Institute’s Scientists are also recognized as co-guides for post-graduation and Ph.D by The Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) Mumbai, Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth Dapoli, University of Agricultural Sciences Raichur, VJTI Mumbai and SNDT Women’s University Mumbai.

Training Courses at ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai

ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai organises regular training programmes on quality evaluation of cotton fibres, absorbent cotton technology, yarn dyeing, knitting & knit garments, value addition to cottonseed, advanced statistical techniques, application of nanotechnology, by-product utilization, pulp & paper technology, green composites etc. Tailor- made international training programmes on post-harvest technologies on cotton for Afro-Asian countries are also conducted by the institute.

Training Courses at GTC, Nagpur

Ginning Training Centre of ICAR-CIRCOT located in Nagpur, Maharashtra is a unique and only one research and training centre of its kind in Asia. This centre imparts theoretical and practical training on Double Roller Ginning Technology, Fibre Quality Evaluation and by-product utilization of cotton and cotton stalks for gin owners, managers, supervisors, fitters etc.

Promotion of quality post graduate research in cutting edge area

ICAR-CIRCOT allows students to conduct research for their degree programmes for a period of 1 to 6 months in the fields of textile technology, textile chemistry, biomass utilization, microbiology and nanotechnology leading to submission of dissertation as a part of their course curriculum, as per the detailed guidelines given by ICAR (F.No. 2-8/2012-HRD dt. 25th April 2014).

Central Sector Scholarship Schemes for SC and ST students:

ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai figures in the revised list of 158 top class institutes identified by Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India (F.No. 11019/02/2010-Ediu, dated 20th April 2015). At present, two Central Sector Scholarship Schemes of Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship (RGNF) for ST students and Top Class Education for ST students are implemented by Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India to provide financial assistance for pursuing higher education of ST students. Students belonging to ST category students can avail benefits under these schemes if they get enrolled in this institute. Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship (RGNF): Government of India launched a Central Sector scheme namely, Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship during the financial year 2005-06 to increase opportunities to students from Scheduled Castes for pursuing higher education leading to M. Phil. and Ph. D. degrees. The scheme as revised with effect from 1.4.2010, caters the requirements of the Scheduled Caste students for pursuing research degree in universities, research institutions and scientific institutions. The Scheme for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes is formulated and funded by Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and Ministry of Tribal Affairs, respectively. The scheme is open to candidates who belong to Scheduled Caste & Scheduled Tribe and wish to pursue higher studies such as regular and full time M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences and Engineering & Technology.
