Awareness on Waste Management at Village Anji, Wardha as part of Swachhta Pakhwara (16-31 December, 2019) by Ginning Training Centre, Nagpur

Awareness program on ‘waste management, utilization of organic waste, generation of wealth from waste, composting of waste material, promoting clean and green technologies and organic farming practices’ was conducted in Anji village, Wardha district. The program was organised as part of the ongoing swachhta pakhwara (16-31 December 2019) and ‘Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav’ scheme. About 30 farmers from the village attended the program in the gram panchayat office premises.
The program started with a welcome address by Sh. Govind Wairale, a renowned cotton expert in the region. He explained about the need for moisture measurement of seed cotton by farmers in the village before taking it to the market in order to fetch better prices for the seed cotton having low moisture content.
Principal Scientist Dr. S.V. Ghadge highlighted the importance of using cotton stalk waste for making briquettes and pellets which can fetch additional remuneration of about Rs. 500 per acre to farmers.
Dr. Sheshrao Kautkar, Scientist, GTC informed about the various government schemes available for the farmers and importance of cleanliness and green technologies.
Sh. U.D. Devikar, ACTO highlightes various training and testing activities of GTC for the benefit of farmers and urged the farmers to approach ATMA for sponsorship.
Lateron, the team visited ATMA office at Wardha and met Project Director Dr.(Mrs). Mankar and discussed about the training programs conducted GTC Nagpur for the benefit of farmers. The team also interacted with farmer entrepreneurs of ‘Organic Vegetable Collection and Supply Centre, Rehaki, Wardha’ and suggested about the appropriate packaging for supply of organically grown vegetables.
Finally, the programme concluded with the brief stop-over meeting with the honourable member of parliament from Wardha, Shri. Ramdas Tadas. In this meeting, various issues on cotton farming in the region and importance of measurement of seed cotton moisture by farmers for getting the right price in the market, for which the MP promised to extend help for procurement and supply of moisture meters in selected villages in the district.
The team also visited the Gandhi Ashram at Sewagram and learned about Gandhi jis thoughts and teachings about cleanliness, health, hygiene, organic food, spinning and khadi, etc.
